Interview with Life at Hand® Founder, Mary Hobratschk
What made you decide to create the Life at Hand® organizing system?
I wanted to find a vehicle to fund, without total dependence on charitable contributions or grant funding, the Whispering Sage Foundation. The foundation has been established to provide respite services to children from homes with parents or caretakers who experience chronic substance abuse or mental health challenges.
My life experiences have led me to understand the critical nature of having vital documents and personal information at hand in the event of emergencies, at times of big transitions, and during life stage changes. Organization lessens confusion, stress, and tension, and can even speed up necessary action and processes.
Why do you think this important?
When you have what you need at times of crisis, you can focus on other things like taking care of loved ones, family members, and the issues at hand. Organization in the form of thinking ahead and being prepared, such as having your Will and important documents within reach, helps bring peace of mind and harmony among family members. Our systems give you the confidence that documents and data are secure and accessible when needed for quick reference.
What’s different about Life at Hand® products?

The Traveler and Roamer are designed specifically for people who move around, particularly caregivers, executors of estates, and frequent travelers. The reality is we are attached to lots and lots of personal information these days and being away from our “home base” often makes it difficult, or even risky, to be without what we need. With our Traveler or USB flash drive system options it’s easy to carry everything you may need.
Most are you most proud of about your products?
I am so pleased with the high quality of the design and construction which includes ease of entering and retrieving information. I am proud to say that through these thoughtful products I can serve my passion in life which is to help children at risk through The Whispering Sage Foundation.
